Aside from that, we have two big things on the judge and logistics front.
- Unfortunately, our previously announced head judge will be unavailable for this tournament, so we’ve had to secure a new head judge. But never fear, we had a couple great folks extend their interest and we’ve currently settled on Jessica Thompson as head judge for the weekend! Jess is a well known player from Indianapolis who picked up AGOT roughly a year before the cancellation of 1ED. Since the launch of 2ED, though, she’s been on a competitive streak winning the first US Road to Stahleck event and getting a paid stay at the venerable castle and most recently becoming the 2019 North American Melee champion! As well, she has solid experience on the judge front being officially in charge of Qyburn’s and unofficially in charge of Craster’s. Welcome to the team, Jess!
- Here’s the big one… Have you ever missed out on a top cut due to poor communication about the time it started? Have you ever showed up to the wrong location for an event? Have you ever been bumped up into a cut and didn’t realize? Have you ever lost something at a tournament and wanted an easy way to ask just the people from that event if they saw it?
Well look no further!
Conflict at the Castle has a mobile app! Ok, well, due to the surprisingly tight count between Android and iPhone users, it’s actually a progressive web app, because paying out the extra money for an Apple Developer account seemed silly! Just head over to www.conflictatthecastle.info on your phone. From here, you should be prompted to allow notifications and location access as well as asked if you’d like to save it to your home screen, depending on your device. If you’re not asked, you should be able to save it to your home screen via your browser menu. From there, it should function nearly the same as a native app.
So why should you care? What does this bring to the table?
The main benefit we hope for is improved communication. With notification allowed, the app will be able to send push notifications to all entrants with it installed. This means we can use it to send out important information to you all like 10 minute warnings on the round or information on when the cut will begin and they’ll pop up just like a regular notification on your phone such as a heads up that someone posted on Twitter or something. There’s a great deal of potential here to get information to you guys and we will likely come up with some fun ways to use it and possibly even gamify it a little.
Along with the push notifications, we’ll have polls available about the weekend, and a forum section where people can do things like ask what bar everyone is headed to, or try to find out if someone knows where a misplaced deckbox is. There’s a handy reminder about both venues that will link you straight to maps, and of course direct links to the registration page and the Jousting Pavilion page for the event.
