The Third Step- The Election

Continuing the long and renowned tradition of posting other people’s stuff here to the site, I present to you, Chris’ post regarding the election itself.

– Will

Thank you to all of you who took the time to register to vote! It’s important that our leadership serve at the will of the community, and you are all helping with that process. Soon, it will be time to vote! Here are a few notes on how the election will take place:

NOTE: Official end time of the election will be: 16 Mar 2020 at 23:59 PDT
-We will be using https://www.opavote.com/ to run the election. We will provide them with a list of the candidates, as well as the manifest of emails for those who have registered.

-Each voter will receive an email with a link to the ballot, which will contain all 26 of our candidates in a randomized order. The voter will select up to NINE of those names to be elected as Archmaesters.

-The election will be open for a week, beginning some time on Monday, March 9 (as soon as we have all the data uploaded) and ending at midnight Eastern time on Monday, March 16. OpaVote will send reminder emails to those who have not yet voted every three days.

-Your votes will be anonymous- at the end of the election, we will be provided with only the final results, not who voted for who.

-The top nine vote-getters will be elected, with at least one from each of the three continents. If there is not a representative from each continent in the top nine, the highest vote-getter from that continent will be moved into a spot, with the lowest from a continent already represented being removed.

-The elected Archmaesters will serve for a term of two years, at which time we will host another election. We do anticipate that future elections will be positionally-based, but felt that the at-large system was optimal for momentum and getting things going this time.

And finally, a reminder that while you will simply be voting for 9 applicants who will then finalize positional assignments amongst themselves, it is important to keep the applicants’ preferences in mind when voting.
